It Had To Be You...

Well well well...why wouldn't it be that way? So I'm up at my friend, Lea Delaria's, http://www.delariadammit.com/ cabaret tonight and am sitting, solo, on the last available bar stool in the joint ready to cheer my girl on for her live recording and there's this guy standing directly behind me with a delicious laugh and lots of clappity claps. I'm being all "I'm cool being alone - don't need to engage" - when Lea goes up on the opening verse to "It Had To Be You" which I happen to have just been listening to as I was just compiling my CRUISE SHIP and other scathing caught-on-film tapes to make a demo/youTube embarrass-myself video where I sang that very verse and she catches herself going up on a lyric. I'm all, "yeah, whoo" in recognition and he's all "wow I saw your shoulders go up on that one" and then she introduces him. It's Michael John LaChiusa,
who I actually don't know personally, but do know he's fancy and talented.... So after the show's through I'm hankerin' a cigarette (which tends to happen when I'm alone) and out I go to the street and fully bum one from him. I introduce myself and he's all "I'm Michael" and I'm all "I'm Luvy" like he should know. But, what the fuck. I wanted a smoke and he was willing so...just sayin' it was weird to bum a cig from MJLaC with him wondering who I am when I know who he is (kinda) and was he wondering if I knew who he was?! Just sayin....

It's weird to be an actress and not come across as being opportunistic - I wasn't trying to network - I was so about to not make it thanks to the MTA's late night painting party at Columbus Circle, but I knows I needs to support mah friends - and am happy to do so. I just don't know what all these muthus look like so I end up meeting them despite myself. I wish I was fancier, but I'm not yet, so how to navigate?

Lea was great and her show reminded me of how close all the entertaining mediums are. So, watch your back.
